• Foundational species of the rainforest because
it is one of the trees that is responsible for
holding/supplying water for out groundwater and
underground streams
• Holds/generates 100 gallons of water a day
• Biological indicator of water
• Found near rivers or in areas where
underground rivers or streams are present, like
here in CELL
• Also illustrates reality of extinction (life
cycle relationship with wasp and bats)
Structures/buildings
• CELL’s structures designed based on a
principle called bioregionalism
• Indigenous materials like bamboo, anahaw, and
pawid were used, with minimal cement
• These materials complemented with the design
allows maximum air to flow (big movable windows)
and light (skylight on roofs) entry
• Ideal for a tropical country like the
Philippines
• Brendan hall, dormitory, Malate Hut, staff
house, dining areas, shop and office, hermitage
Compost toilet
• Another way of processing human waste
• Water is conserved since no flushing
• Waste immediately undergoes aerobic
decomposition (with oxygen)
• No smell
• No contamination of water table
Cosmic Walk
• Highlights the key of creation of Universe
• We remember and give thanks to tall of
creation and our ancestors for what they have
contributed in making the universe and life
possible
Footpaths
• Footpaths make use of gravel instead of
cement allows the soil to breath, and water
(like rain, etc) to be filtered and to reach the
groundwater
• Helps maintain water cycle
• Keeps snakes away through sound of gravel
Laundry area waste water
• Water from all our sinks and wash areas lead
straight to the farm
• Water recycling to immediately benefit plans
• Need to use biodegradable soap

supplements, and cosmetics
